From the Docks to the Isle of IKEA, Wednesday Afternoon

Long ago in days of yore, it all began with a god named Thor...okay, on Wednesday afternoon, Anna stood on the dock and waited for the arrival of the others who were going (along with anyone else who wanted to show up; this was hardly a private trip) and a shuttle-longboat from the Isle of Ikea. She'd cashed in her first paychecks from the Devil's Nest, and now needed stuff beyond a dress and a creepy doll. She'd taken the precaution of writing down a tentative shopping list in case she couldn't leave the island this way, either, in hopes the others would help her out. She was actually excited about the outing, enough so that she felt a bit silly.

Gather to wait for a longboat manned by Swedes and take a trip to the land where the furniture folds to a much smaller size!

Tara was pretty cheerful as she waited for the boat. Somehow she'd never gone to the Isle of Ikea before, and her room could use some redecorating. She'd be looking for anything that might work for college, too.

"Ikea still sounds like a silly place to go," Loki announced. "Like the mart of walls. They smiled too much there in Broxton."

Tara smirked at him. "Wal-Mart was a big night out back where I came from," she announced. "Um. Where I come from is really, really boring."

Stacey was completely in favor of this trip. Let's get some stuff on Anna's side of the room already.

Then there was the big about waiting for a boat to take you to an island of a furniture store. That part was definitely new, but Stacey just told herself to think of it as the ferry.

"Some sheets," Anna said immediately. "And a pillow. I want to start with the basics." Which was a good policy when you had literally nothing to your name.

In retrospect, Stacey realized, this was probably a bad idea. She had a credit card and she didn't have to pay the bill and it was so easy to look at things and think it was really a good bargain even if she didn't need a new bed or whatever.

So when she found the section of things like lamps and candles and things that weren't actually furniture, it just made things so much easier. She was spending way too much time looking at the framed photography, thinking her side of the room could stand to be sophisticated up a bit.

"Audrey," Stacey said after a moment's consideration. "It's just more sophisticated."

She was a sucker for that kind of thing if anyone couldn't tell by now.

Anna had actually modified her plan once she got into the store. She'd started with some sheets and a basic pillow, but then as she looked at items and did budget math, she realized she didn't need a bed like other people had. She could use it as a daybed! So instead of a duvet, she was buying several colorful throw pillows, along with a simple bedspread, a fluffy blanket, and a green throw that was dirt cheap even by 1958 standards. Basically she was planning to create herself a little lounging nest.

Her cart was already pretty full when she found herself contemplating whether she could afford a rug.

Tara got completely overwhelmed somewhere in the kitchen section, so the snack bar was a welcome relief. She got a salad with salmon and found a table to dig in.

Kenzi was talking to one of the guys at the meatballs before wandering over to Tara's table.

"...no, yeah, I was just wondering what you did with the leftovers? Really? Hmmmmm...."

That grin when she sat down with a plate full of food was possibly evil. "So, what's a ligonberry, anyway?"

Did you just buy a table for sixty bucks? And a chair and a lamp and a shelf and some candles for you? Regroup and show off your purchases, then climb back aboard the longboat to go back to Fandom!

I would say I was sorry but that would be a big fib.

The Isle of Ikea, for anyone not entirely familiar, is Fandom's partner island, an island entirely covered by an IKEA. It is, in my humble opinion, sorely underutilized. Way back in the stone ages it was accessed via waverunner, but they've upgraded to longboat shuttles to make getting there and back with stuff easier. :D Everyone has a home, but if you don't have a home you can buy one there!

Since the island is in the same weirdness bubble as Fandom (and mostly because I said so) Anna can leave the island to go to it.

In related news, I have never actually been to an IKEA.
